(JAMIA DUA)
[Last Reviewed: April 2026]
The Sahabas loved every dua they heard from the Prophet (saw), but there were so many that they could not memorise them all. So they asked him directly: is there one dua that covers everything? His (saw) answer was simple, two lines.

Hadith
Abu Umamah al-Bahili (ra) narrated:
The Messenger of Allah (saw) made many duas, and we could not memorise all of them. We said: "O Messenger of Allah (saw), you made many duas and we could not memorise them." He said:
"Shall I not show you something that encompasses all of that? Say:"
The Dua
O Allah, I ask You for the good which Your Prophet Muhammad (saw) asked from You; and I seek Your refuge from the evil from which Your Prophet Muhammad (saw) sought refuge. You are the One from Whom help is sought, and it is Your responsibility to communicate (the truth). There is no power or strength except with Allah the Exalted, the Great.

Why is the Jamia Dua so powerful?
The Jamia Dua is one of the most powerful duas because it encapsulates every form of goodness and protection within a single dua. Instead of asking for specific needs individually, it aligns a believer's request with everything the Prophet (saw) asked for and sought protection from, making this dua complete and all-encompassing.
Benefits
- It stands in for every prophetic dua at once
Throughout his entire lifetime, the Prophet (saw) made thousands of duas whether for this world, the Hereafter, protection, health, forgiveness, or guidance. This dua, comprising a mere two lines, encapsulates the essence of his entire treasury of duas.
- It pairs asking with seeking refuge
Every complete dua has two directions: seeking good and fleeing evil. This dua covers both in one breath, asking for what he (saw) asked for, and seeking refuge from what he (saw) sought refuge from.
- It teaches humility in dua
The Sahabas could not memorise every dua, and the Prophet (saw) did not rebuke them. Instead, he offered a solution better than memorisation: a key that opens all doors at once.
When to recite this Dua?
- After the obligatory salat.
- During personal dua at any time.
- In the morning and evening for comprehensive benefit.
- When unsure what to ask, as it covers all good and protection in one dua.
The Sahabas were not criticised for forgetting; they were taught. When they found something too much to carry, the Prophet (saw) showed a way to lighten the load without diminishing the reward.
This dua carries a complete meaning: align your requests with the Prophet's (saw) requests, your fears with his fears, and leave the rest to Allah.
