DUA AFTER READING QUR'AN
[Last Reviewed: April 2026]
What to say after reciting the Qur’an?
The Qur'an is the final revelation of Allah, revealed through the Angel Jibreel to Prophet Muhammad (saw) 1400 years ago.
The Qur'an, an eternal book of Allah's mercy and guidance, revealed so that people may reflect upon its verses. Regular recitation brings the reader closer to its divine guidance, strengthens one's faith, increases understanding of life's purpose and inspires hope in the face of challenges.
[This is] a blessed Book which We have revealed to you, that they might reflect upon its verses…
[Surah Sad, 38:29]
This establishes tadabbur as a core objective of revelation.
Hadith
Abdullah bin Amr bin Al-As (ra) reported: The Prophet (saw) said, "The one who was devoted to the Qur'an will be told on the Day of Resurrection: 'Recite and ascend in ranks as you used to recite when you were in the world. Your rank will be at the last Ayah you recite.'"
[Abu Dawud & Tirmidhi, Riyad as-Salihin 1001, Sahih]
The Dua
The following dua focuses on seeking understanding, reflection, and the ability to act upon the Qur’an:
Allahummar-zuqnit-tafakkura wat-tadabbura bimaa yatloohu lisaanee min kitaabika, wal-fahma lahu, wal-ma'rifata bi-ma'aaneehi, wan-nazara fee ajaa'ibihi, wal-'amala bi-zaalika maa baqeetu, innaka 'alaa kulli shay'in qadeer
O Allah! whatever I recite from Your Book (Qur'an), grant me the strength to ponder over it. O Allah! grant me understanding of it, gratitude for comprehending its meanings, and the ability to reflect on its wonders, and grant me the ability to act upon it for as long as I live. Verily, You have power over all things.
